In the letter of Saint Symeon the Stylite to Bishop Basil of Antioch, he encourages him with the following words to be faithful to the decisions of the Fourth Ecumenical Synod:
"Wherefore be strong and brave in the cause of true piety, as was also Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the Lord, in behalf of the children of Israel."
Both Saint Symeon the Stylite and the Righteous Joshua the Son of Nun are celebrated in the Orthodox Church on September 1st, supreme models of the Christian life on the ecclesiastical new year, for being examples of humble obedience, steadfast faithfulness, and relentless fighters against the enemies of the Lord.
