The Relics of Saint Ephraim of Nea Makri in Canada

Saint John the Baptist Hellenic Orthodox Church is located in Saint-Hubert in the region of Quebec, and was established in 1985. This parish has the special blessing of having a large icon of Saint Ephraim of Nea Makri, along with one of his slippers as well as a portion of his hand. These relics were given to this parish by the late Eldress Makaria Desypris (1911-1999) herself, who Saint Ephraim first revealed himself to and indicated to where his long lost relics were, which she discovered in 1950.

The reason these sacred relics came to this parish is because Eldress Makaria had a brother, Archimandrite Fr. Andreas Desypris, who was a priest and served in this parish for a number of years, until his repose at 97 years old on November 6, 2019. Fr. Andreas was from Tinos, whose maternal grandfather was also a priest. He had two sisters, who became nuns. He had served as a parish priest in Canada for over 50 years. His funeral took place at the Holy Monastery of Panagia the Consoler in Quebec on November 11th, 2019. He was at his sister's funeral in 1999, and can be seen serving in this video.
